• Mrs. Patterson, Parent Liaison, is looking forward to working with the parents and guardians of Renaissance Academy students to build a strong support for the students, teachers and staff.  Empowering parents to feel a part of the school will help our students succeed and make learning easier and exciting.   Maureen Patterson received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Evansville.   Working as a professional actress, she was introduced to teaching by leading acting/theatre clinics.   Mrs. Patterson was selected as a Teaching Artist in Residence for Ohio for nearly 20 years developing drama and dance curriculum support for students at risk through SPECTRA Plus.  She also developed the Arts in Schools outreach program, “Grade A for Arts”, for The Cincinnati Children’s Theatre and taught with the School of Creative and Performing Arts.  Mrs. Patterson was blessed to discover a true love of working with and teaching students who had been led to believe they were poor learners.   Seeing students become excited about learning and their own education became far more exciting than any applause.   Mrs. Patterson also worked with artists in the greater Cincinnati area community developing the National Underground Railroad Interactive Program.  In response to the riots in Cincinnati of 2001, these same artists came together under her direction initiating the African American Theatre Company receiving the Mayors Award for Community Excellence in 2007. Moving to Columbus in 2008, Mrs. Patterson began long term substitute teaching and eventually tutoring for Pickerington Schools working with students struggling to pass the OGT and AIR tests.   She returned to school in 2016 to pursue a Masters in Counseling focusing in Adolescent Clinical Counseling and Substance Abuse and is working with her church to build an Opioid Recovery Outreach program called The Sanctuary.   Married for 30 years, she and her husband, Grant, are very proud of their three grown children; Margaret, Mary, and Evan.   A huge animal lover she has rescued animals throughout her life and currently shares her home with Chester, the dog, and Blackie, the cat. Growing up as an Army brat in Germany, England and Africa surrounded by diverse cultures, languages, music and history she loves to dance, read mysteries and historical novels, watch British TV and travel anywhere at any time.
